Week before last I mentioned I would start a short series of articles to expand on the "How To Get Truly Good Health" list. This week we continue to explore "diet," the big "D " word part 2.

Last week we discussed adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet, how organic is better than non-organic and how removing MSG is important for your brain health.

This week we discuss corn and corn products and why they are not a good addition to your diet. Most everyone likes corn. It tastes wonderful but it is probably not the best grain to eat because of the changes in corn the past 50 years or so.

Let’s take a quick look at what corn is and where it came from. It is not an original food product. It was hybridized by American Indians hundreds of years ago, but in the past century became a Genetically Modified (GMO) food. One of the problems with GMOs is the fact that once you mess with the DNA structure of an organism it is no longer healthy and makes it susceptible to disease. Fungus has been introduced to grains during storage in silos or other hot, humid places. The fungus DNA merges with the seed/corn DNA and the next generation has a harder time of surviving in the field. This has happened over and over during the past 50+ years and now, according to the 911 Commission, all corn is “universally contaminated with fungus.” The code is locked in the DNA structure.

Corn and other grains are regularly tested for fungus poisons in the US but only for two toxins, Aflatoxin and Fumonisin. Europe tests for at least five major toxins. Grains which have too much go to animal feeds. Those with less are allowed in human foods. People raising animals need to be aware of toxin symptoms.

Toxins are difficult for our bodies to get rid of so they build up and are stored in our fat cells. The effects of these toxins are cumulative or add up over time. These toxins are linked to many diseases and to obesity.

From 1990-1991 a birth defect outbreak along the Texas-Mexico border was linked to infected corn. Many children died or are living with deformed bodies because of corn. (Come by Crucial Health for a copy of the article from CNN.)

The easiest way to overcome these toxins is limit how much you eat of them. If you lose weight, you will get rid of the stored toxins. But changing what you eat and losing weight is only part of the battle. Other measures need to be taken to regain lost health. Crucial Health has articles on many subjects and they are available to you for free.
